Stringent security measure for Barisal city polls
A three-tier security measure has been planned for Barisal City Corporation election to be held on August 4.
Barisal Metropolitan Police sources said at least 5,000 police personnel, both in uniform and plainclothes, would be deployed in 91 polling centres, key points, election and political offices and camps in the city.
This force would be collected as 2000 from BMP and rest 3000 from armed police battalion, range reserve forces and different police stations of the upazila and districts in the region.
Hayatul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of BMP, told The Daily Star that police already set up five check posts at key places and entrance points of the city and 10 mobile teams have started patrolling in 30 wards of BCC to monitor the situation round the clock.
On the election day, they will increase the number of mobile teams and also deploy 20 striking forces, he said, adding that around 30 police personnel in each of the 55 vulnerable vote centres and 28 policemen in each of the rest 36 less risky vote centres would be deployed.
Manirul Islam, deputy election commissioner in charge and retuning officer of BCC election, said for maintaining law and order during the election period mobile patrol and striking forces will be deployed from August 1 and forces at the vote centres will be stationed on August 3.
Besides, movements of motorised private transports like motorcycles, microbuses, cars will be restricted, he said.
