No classes at Sust as BCL enforces transport strike
No class or examination was held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) yesterday following a transport strike enforced by the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus.
BCL leaders also called an indefinite strike on the campus from today demanding punishment to the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadres who assaulted BCL workers Monday afternoon. They also demanded resignation of Sust Proctorial body members and provost of Shahporan Hall.
They handed over a memorandum to the VC demanding immediate expulsion of the JCD cadres.
Fifteen persons were injured during Monday's clash. Two of them were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital and Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital.
BCL activists put the main gate of the university under lock and key and held a rally on the campus.
Meanwhile, Sust officials held at a meeting yesterday afternoon to discuss the campus situation with vice chancellor (VC) Prof M Aminul Islam in the chair. The VC asked deans and heads of the departments to take measures to maintain normalcy on the campus.
The Sust authorities also filed a case against a BCL activist named Malay Sarker yesterday for attacking Jasim Uddin, a student of Computer Science Department a few days ago.
