Rtd village police was killed to trap rivals
Retired village police Tarak Das was murdered in Tala upazila seven months ago by a gang to falsely implicate their rivals in the village in a murder case. This was revealed in the statement of one the alleged killers given in a Satkhira court yesterday.
The alleged killer --arrested Ranjit Kumar Rishigave a confessional statement before the court of Judicial Magistrate MA Sayeed under Section 164 of BPC, according to investigation officer (IO) of the case SI Yakub Ali of Tala police station.
Ranjit, son of Madar Rishi of Dohar village in Tala upazila, was arrested from a shrimp enclosure in the village Sunday. Police produced him before court yesterday.
According to police and court sources, Ranjit told the court that he along with other killers slaughtered Tarak Das, 75, when he was asleep on the corridor of his house on he night of December 20 last year.
He also named other alleged killers. They were Kashem, Gahar Ali and Wahab Ali of Dohar village. They planned the murder to implicate their rivals in the village.
After the murder, the victim's son Shyamal Kumar Das filed a case with Tala police station accusing five people.
The accused are Mozammel Sheikh, Tozammel Sheikh, Masum sheikh, Khasru Sheikh and Dr Mahmudul Sheikh, all sons of Mokshed Ali Sheikh of Dohar village.
Police arrested non-FIR (First Information Report) named accused including a college teacher.
They are Shalikha College teacher Biplob Sheikh, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, son of Nawsher Ali Sheikh and Abdar Ali Moral, son of Nabab Ali Moral of the village.
IO of the case SI Yakub Ali said police are trying to nab other killers.
