Body recovered from launch in Barisal

Body of a passenger was recovered from the cabin of a launch here yesterday morning. The dead was identified as Golam Rahman, 53, senior operation officer of the Patenga depot of Jamuna Oil Company, Chittagong. Hailing from Kalaskati in Bakerganj upazila, Rahman booked a double cabin from Dhaka for travelling to Barisal. Fatema Begum, 40, wife of Md Mashiur Shanu of Barisal city, also a village neighbour accompanied him, launch staff, police and Rab said. As the launch reached Barisal launch terminal in the morning, Fatema tried to leave the launch alone. On suspicion, launch clerk Abu Sufian and cabin boys Khalilur and Mizanur Rahman enquired about her co-passenger. In reply, she said he had been in sleep and would leave the launch later on. On information, the launch authorities detained Fatema asking its staff to check the cabin. After check, they found the body wrapped by bed-sheet on bed. The launch authorities also detained Fatema's brother Mahmudur Rahman alias Zakir, 37, and her son-in-law Redwan Ahmed, 32, who came to receive her. Later, they were handed over to Rapid Action Battalion (Rab). Rab recovered Tk 78,440 in cash and a bank check of one lakh taka from the cabin.
