'Bikalpadhara won't oppose upazila polls before JS election'
The organising secretary of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, Mahi B Chowdhury said his party would not oppose holding of upazila elections before the parliamentary polls.
“I think at least 70 percent of the people want upazila polls before parliamentary elections,” he said at a press conference at Zia Hall in the city on Thursday morning.
Bikalpadhara emerged as an alternative political organisation due to failure of past governments to run the country properly, he said.
After the party came into being on May 19 in 2005, he came under attacks 32 times during organisational tours across the country and all those incidents were engineered by the immediate past government, he said during his first political tour in Khulna since birth of the party.
“The emergency is a protective one and elections under the state of emergency can be held to save the country from a frustrating situation,” he said.
He said the present government has succeeded about the agenda it is working with but it has failed to control price spiral of essentials.
“Ideology and political culture of Awami League attracted me although I do respect late Ziaur Rahman from the core of my heart. But the BNP founded by Ziaur Rahman is quite different from the present BNP headed by Khaleda Zia. The present BNP has deviated from his ideals,” he said.
Mahi held Tarique Rahman responsible for the present deplorable situation of BNP.
