Probe report submitted, show cause on two students

The probe body formed to investigate the Monday night's assault on a teacher at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) yesterday submitted report to BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain, suggesting action against the culprits. The authorities yesterday served show cause notices to two students -- Dipak and Biman -- as their involvement in the attack was primarily proved, said Prof Mohammad Shamsuddin, member secretary of the probe body. Following assault on Wakilur Rahman, a house tutor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, the authorities formed a three-member probe body on Wednesday. Protesting the incident, earlier 37 house tutors of different halls of BAU submitted resignation letters to the hall provosts on the night of the occurrence with a three-day ultimatum. Prof Dr Md Shamsuddin, dean of Agri-Engineering and Technology Faculty, also BAU syndicate member, heads the probe body while two other members are BAU Proctor Prof Dr Mohammad Shamsuddin and Prof Dr Md Nazrul Islam of Agronomy Department of BAU Agriculture Faculty. The committee recorded deposition of six alleged attackers -- Dipak, Biman, Babu, Bashkar, Faruq and Kamrul on Thursday, Prof Mohammad Shamsuddin said.
