UGC today begins probing RU recruitment scam
A three-member probe committee of University Grants Commission (UGC) today begins probe into alleged irregularities and corruption in recruitment at Rajshahi University (RU) between 2005 and 2008.
The probe body led by UGC Deputy Director Mizanur Rahman will reach RU today, sources said.
Meanwhile, RU authorities led by acting registrar Prof Muhammad Shafi yesterday held a meeting with additional registrar, deputy registrar and heads of different sections.
Earlier, UGC sent a letter to the university registrar asking for files, papers and documents on manpower recruitment between 2005 and 2008, the sources said.
RU acting registrar Prof Shafi also asked deputy registrars and section heads to prepare for the UGC investigation.
RU authorities have formed a 10-member committee led by additional registrar Dr Sheikh Shad Ahmed to assist the UGC body in investigation.
When contacted, Prof Shafi, told this correspondent that the UGC team will reach RU today. RU teacher and UGC member Prof Zihadul Karim will join the probe team.
RU acting vice-chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat also confirmed arrival of the UGC probe team today.
The Progressive Teachers Society (PTS) and different
students organisations have demanded neutral investigation into irregularities and corruption in recruitment, done allegedly in violation of the University Act.
