2 Netrakona newsmen held on charge of 'extortion'
Two journalists were arrested here on charge of demanding Tk 50,000 illegal toll from the Lions Eye Care Centre authorities and damaging valuables at the centre yesterday.
Police arrested Dainik Nayadiganta correspondent Fazlul Haque Noman and RTV correspondent Humayun Kabir Selim in the afternoon from the centre situated at Chotobazar here.
Earlier, the chairman of the centre, Jaglul Mahmud, filed a case with Netrakona police accusing the two for demanding the illegal toll and damaging valuables at the centre.
The journalists allegedly threatened the authorities to compel them to close down the eye care centre in the town for failure to fulfill the demand.
