'Illegal' deduction from security money alleged
Ten contractors have issued a legal notice to Sirajganj PWD (Public Work Department) Executive Engineer Zia Uddin Haider as he allegedly deducted Tk 12 lakh illegally from the security money deposited by them.
The contractors also submitted complaint to the higher authorities concerned alleging the executive engineer's corruption, mismanagement and irregularities, they said at a press conference in the town on Friday.
They completed the work of rehabilitation projects amounting to about Tk 3 crore by June this year as PWD Executive Engineer Zia Uddin Haider gave work permit of the projects to the 10 contractors through tender and after completion of the works, they said at the press conference.
The amount was allocated from the chief adviser's fund for different rehabilitation works in the district after last year floods.
They submitted bills to the executive engineer in time but the officer illegally cut Tk 12 lakh of the contractors from their security money, they said.
Zia Uddin earlier realised big amount as 'percentage' from the contractors against their works permit, they said, adding that earlier he gave work orders to his favourite contractors without publishing tender on newspapers.
When he got big amount of fund from higher authorities for any project, he technically divided the work and gave work permit to a few contractors, they alleged.
Contacted two times over phone, Zia Uddin Hayder declined to talk to journalists saying that he was busy.
