Declare Aug 15 a holiday

Awami League (AL) leaders at a meeting here yesterday urged the government to declare August 15 as a holiday as per a High Court directive.
They demanded immediate arrest and punishment of Jamaat-Shibir cadres who assaulted freedom fighter Sheikh Mohammad Ali Aman at a function in the capital on July 11.
They also demanded trial of war criminals to establish rule of law in the country.
The meeting demanded permanent release of AL chief Sheikh Hasina and urged the government to hold national polls before upazila election and to lift emergency before the polls.
The meeting, chaired by district AL convenor MA Ahmed, chalked out a programme to observe August 15 as 'national mourning day'.
