Defeat of Moni in Mayoral Polls
Khulna BNP accuses Jamaat of double standard
Victory of Talukder Abdul Khaleque in the mayoral race of Khulna City Corporation has infused a new life into Khulna Awami League.
On the other hand, frustration among leaders and workers of Khulna BNP is prevailing for losing the mayoral post after holding it for long 17 years since Khulna pourasava was upgraded into Khulna city Corporation.
Meanwhile, the gap between Khulna BNP and Jamaat is gradually widening. Because, majority of BNP leaders and workers are convinced that Jamaat played double standard game in polls battle, refraining from casting their votes for Moniruzzaman Moni. Because, Jamaat's two councilor candidates Ashraf Hossain and Mausur Ali won from wards 4 and 18 respectively where BNP Mayoral candidate Moni was defeated.
The president of Khulna district Awami League Sheikh Harun-ar-Rashid said leaders and workers of Khulan Awami League had regained their strength to organise the party in a stronger way than before with Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque.
The Chief Election agent and general secretary of Khulna City Awami League Mizanur Rahman said that his party's victory in the mayoral race had opened the door for winning two parliamentary seats (Khulna-2 and Khulna-3) under jurisdiction of Khulna City Corporation.
Khulna City Ameer of Jamaat Mian Golam Parwar while dismissing allegation of double standard role in mayoral election said that Moni had polled his party's votes.
But local leaders fo BNP while rejecting Jamaat leader's claim said that they would have to re think acceptance of Jamaat in any future political programmes.
