Four years after formal inauguration, Sultan Smriti Sangrahshala (memorial museum) at the famous artist's birthplace Masimdia on the outskirts of Narail town is yet to be ready for display for public as the authorities have failed to employ sufficient manpower. On August 10 in 2003, the then information minister M Tarikul Islam inaugurated the Sangrahshala. The museum for collection and display of SM Sultan's memorabilia was established at Sultan's birthplace Masimdia at a cost of Tk 1.62 crore, PWD office sources said. In June 2003, 10 people were appointed to administer the centre but they later left the workplace due to non-payment of their salaries, district administration sources said. On February 24 this year, the adviser of caretaker government Rasheda K Chowdhury said the centre would open soon. The art gallery contains 41 pieces of Sultan's paintings including 13 original and 28 digital print works. There is a 41 feet long masterpiece of Sultan's painting titled 'Evaluation of Civilisation'. Some of his dresses, books and musical instruments are also kept there, DC office sources said. A number of viewers including of artists, litterateurs and intellectuals come to visit the place but they get disappointed to see the museum closed, said Sultan's adopted daughter Nihar Bala.
