Marmas allege discrimination

Bangladesh Marma Oikkya Parishad, a body of indigenous Marma community, yesterday alleged that they are facing discrimination due to a particular ethnic community. They expressed the view at a discussion meeting held at the Oikkya Parishad office at Golabari in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila. Speakers there claimed that students of Chakma community got most of the scholarships given by a foreign donor agency in June this year. No Marma student got any chance, they alleged. They also pointed that none of the chairmen of three hill district councils, Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council and Refugee Affairs Taskforce are from Marma community. They put forward a six-point demand including quota for Marma people in government jobs.
