Charge framed against Satkhira doctor, nurse
A Satkhira court yesterday framed charges against Dr Syed Kamruzzaman, a physician of Khulna Diagnostic Centre in the town, and nurse Firoza Khatun of the same centre, in a case for alleged violation of a female patient who came to the centre on February 3 last year.
Judge Motazidur Rahman of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court fixed August 25 for next hearing of the case.
The court sent nurse Firoza Khatun to jail, rejecting her prayer for bail.
Pregnant Sharmin Sultana, 18, wife of Sanarul Islam of village Shialdanga in Sadar upazila, came to Khulna Diagnostic Centre for ultra sonogram on February 3 in 2007, goes the prosecution.
Dr Syed Kamruzzaman tested her and asked her husband and mother-in-law to go out of the chamber. Afterwards he violated the patient in his chamber at about 12:00am on the same day, the prosecution said.
The victim's husband filed a case with Sadar Police Station against Dr Kamruzzaman and nurse Firoza Khatun under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on the same day.
After investigation, police submitted final report before the court.
Following a 'naraji' petition submitted by the complainant, the court rejected the final report and sent the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) asking the authorities to investigate the case by an official not below the rank of assistant superintendent of police, court sources said.
CID conducted investigation and submitted charge sheet against the two accused.
