'Erect monument at Jahajmara to preserve war history'
Speakers including freedom fighters at a discussion here yesterday demanded construction of a monument and a museum at Jahajmara in Bhuapur to preserve the history of Liberation War in the area.
Freedom fighters led by Abdul Kader Siddiqui attacked arms loaded Pakistani ship SU Engineers L.C-3 on the Jamuna at Sirajkandi in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail on August 11, 1971. They looted the arms and ammunition and set the ship on fire.
Jahajmara Smrity Rakhha Parishad and Bhuapur Upazila Muktijoddha Command organised the discussion at Jahajmara in Sirajkandi.
Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin attended the meeting as chief guest while another Language Movement veteran Dr Mirza Mazharul Islam was the special guest. Bhuapur Mayor and Freedom Fighter Abdul Khalek Mondol was in the chair.
