Bank of Ceylon manager sued in Sylhet
Authorities of Commercial Bank of Ceylon has filed a case against the manager of the bank's Sylhet branch, Shibli A Chowdhury, who went into hiding along with his family on June 1 after misappropriating a huge amount of money from depositors' accounts.
In his ejahar filed with the Sylhet Kotlwali Police Station, Safayet Hossain, assistant manager of the Bank's Sylhet branch in the city's Dargah Gate, alleged that Manager Shibli A Chowdhury had misappropriated at least Tk 1,65,61,000.
Police sent the case to the deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission, Sylhet regional office yesterday afternoon.
Following the complaints from depositors about embezzling their money, a team from the bank's head office conducted investigations that revealed that the manager had transferred money to other accounts by putting fake signature of depositors.
