6 cases may face final report as no clue found
Three years after the series blasts on August 17 in 2005, there has been no progress in investigations in six of the 10 cases filed in connection with the incidents in Sylhet.
Five of those cases, earlier investigated by the police, is now being investigated by the CID while Detective Branch is probing the other one.
Three JMB cadres were awarded jail terms in three cases while trial in another case has started, court sources said.
Between 11:00am to 11:30am on 17 August in 2005, bombs were blasted at 12 spots in Sylhet city.
Kotwali police started 10 cases under the Explosives Act.
Police on 25 September the same year caught JMB cadres Mohsin Khan and Abdul Hai, also teachers of Zaintapur Sengram Dakhil Madrasa.
Under police remand, Mohsin admitted to his complicity with the blasts at three spots including the premise of Collectorate Building and the court garden.
The court awarded them 10 years RI. Besides, JMB man Akhtaruzzaman was awarded 10 years RI in the case for blast at Ambarkhana.
On 18 October the same year, JMB cadre Akhtar Hossain of village Satpoa under Mymensingh Sadar upazila was caught when he was fleeing after hurling bombs aiming at Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Biplab Goswami at Kumarpara in the city.
Akhtar in his confessional statement disclosed the names of several other cadres of JMB, who took part in the series blasts in Sylhet.
Seven militants are in the jail and facing trial for the blast at South Surma Bus terminal. Detective Branch Inspector Mubinul Islam submitted charge sheet in the bus terminal blast case accusing Mohsin Khan and Abdul Hai.
Progress in the six cases is almost nil as no clue has yet been found, a CID official said, adding that they may submit final report if no more progress is made soon.
