Pledge to make RCC , KCC graft-free
Liton, Talukder Khaleque take charge
After taking office yesterday afternoon, newly elected Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton vowed to investigate corruptions by his predecessor Mizanur Rahman Minu and said he has plans to save the city people from high prices of essentials.
Rejaun Nabi Dudu, acting Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) handed over the charge to the new mayor at a simple ceremony at Rajshahi City Bhaban as the outgoing RCC mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu is in jail.
Liton, elected to the mayoral post with support from Awami League-led alliance, said he would investigate widespread allegations of corruption by former RCC mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu and take action against his predecessor's massive politically motivated recruitment of RCC employees.
He said he has planned steps to free RCC from corruption, nepotism and politicisation and make it a development-oriented organisation with people's participation.
Our Staff Correspondent adds from Khulna: Talukder Abdul Khaleque took over charge as mayor of Khulna City Corporation at a simple function held at the Nagor Bhabon yesterday morning.
At the function conducted by KCC Chief Executive Officer Tapan Kumar Ghose, the mayor said he will try his level best to fulfil his election pledges to make KCC a service-oriented, corruption-free and an accountable local body.
