Beautification Of B'baria Canal Protested
Memo to DC for re-excavation, probe body formed
A memorandum was submitted to Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner (DC) Md Abdul Hai yesterday demanding re-excavation of a canal running through the town shunning the beautification project undertaken by Brahmanbaria Pourasabha on its both sides. Brahmanbaria Titas Purbanchal Upazila Bastabayon Parishad secretary Md Burhan Uddin and its publicity secretary journalist Dipak Chowdhury Bappi jointly submitted the memorandum on behalf of people of 10 unions of the district.
A tougher agitation launched by Brahmanbaria Titas Purbanchal Upazila Bastabayon Parishad against the project has already gained momentum.
Several organisations held protest meetings at different venues in last one month. The organisations are Poribesh Bachao Andolon, Mukta Bangla, Titas Bachao Andolon, Five Star Club, Brahmanbaria Zila Nagorik Committee and Brahmanbaria Sacheton Nagorik Committee.
While contacted, Brahmanbaria DC said that he has formed a one-member committee headed by ADC Md Emrul Chowdhury asking to submit a report within the shortest possible time.
