Khulna mayor rejects police protection
City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque yesterday said he would not receive any service from police for his security.
Khulna City Corporation, now beset with manifold problems including severe financial crisis, cannot afford to bear the cost of fuel for transports of the mayor's protection parties, the mayor told reporters at his office yesterday.
“The people who voted me to KCC mayoral post are my security forces. I do not need any protection from security forces as I have good relations with the people throughout my entire political career,” he said.
He said he would curtail all unnecessary expenditure in a bid to enable KCC stand on its own feet.
He said he will initiate a probe about his predecessor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman's spending a good amount of money from KCC for fuel for receiving protection from security forces round-the-clock.
