Kushtia woman dies in police chase
Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife after recovery of her body hanging at Dahkula village in Sadar upazila in the district yesterday.
The victim's family sources said a team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tanvir from Dahkula police outpost went to Saddam Hossain's house at Dahkula village in Sadar upazila at about 11:30pm.
Police said they were looking for Saddam, as he is an alleged top cadre of outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz.
Not finding Saddam at the house, police picked up Saddam's physically impaired son Habibur, 18, and took him to Dahkula Bazaar, sources said, adding that police beat up the boy in front of his mother Moijan Nessa to extract information about his father.
As Moijan followed the police team and protested beating of her disabled son, police got angry and chased her.
The woman ran fast in the dark to evade arrest and since then she was missing. Moijan's body was found hanging at a bush of the village yesterday noon.
On information, police from the same camp recovered the body and sent to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
Family members of the victim alleged that police killed Moijan on Sunday night and hung the body.
When contacted, ASI Tanvir of Dahkula police camp said police called the woman for interrogation but she disappeared in the dark.
