Birampur mayor sent to jail
A magistrate's court here yesterday sent the mayor of Birampur Pourosabha in Dinajpur district, Md Hossain Ali, to jail on his appearance before court, court sources said.
He allegedly imported 4,200 metric tonnes (MT) of rice worth Tk 26,13,192 through Hili Land Port by forging LC papers in April, 2006. Customs authorities found inconsistency in the papers after an investigation. Police then filed a case.
