'Agyan party' robs 26 launch passengers in 5 days
At least 26 homebound launch passengers from Dhaka lost their valuables after becoming victims of 'agyan party' in six days from September 30 to October 5.
Eleven of the 26 victims are still under treatment in hospitals and clinics, said sources at Barisal Port police post, Kotwali Police Station and Shere Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Several victims have alleged that a section of launch staff work as accomplice of the criminal gang.
Hayatul Islam, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said law enforcement agencies in uniform and plain cloths are engaged to prevent this crime.
“We always ask passengers to remain cautious against 'agyan party' gang and not to purchase any food or beverage from vendors, hawkers or at stations and not to be close with unknown people during journey. But careless passengers ignore the suggestion and become victims of 'agyan party'. They often avoid filing allegations with law enforcement agencies,” he said.
