ACC absolves Khagrachhari AL secy Zahedul of charge

District Awami League Secretary Mohammad Zahedul Alam at a press conference yesterday said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) absolved the allegation of amassing illegal wealth against him. The ACC issued a notice on September 27 last year asking him to submit detailed statement of wealth by October 3 and accordingly he submitted statement of his wealth worth about Tk 22 lakh, he said at the press conference at his Pankhaiyapra Road party office in Khagrachhari Sadar upazila. The notice had said there was an allegation of amassing illegal wealth, he said. Then a taskforce team led by Lt Col Rakib and an ACC team led by Assistant Director of Chittagong ACC Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad investigated the matter and released me from the allegation. “In a letter sent today [Sunday] they mentioned that they did not get any illegal property possessed by me,” he said. District AL President Zatindra Lal Tripura and other party leaders were present at the press conference.
