600 MT onions seized at Bhomra port
Bhomra Land Customs authorities seized 600 metric tonnes (MT) of onions from the port for allegedly importing those through forged letter of credit (LC) on Monday.
Importer Lablu of Messrs Jess Trading of the town opened the LC with the concerned bank in May for importing 600 MT onions from India, Customs authorities said. He imported 370 MT onions in June and July. This time also he imported 600 MT onions showing the same LC, they said. On arrival of the onion-laden truck at port, the Customs authorities detected the forgery and seized the onions.
When contacted, Bhomra port assistant commissioner Shah Jahan confirmed the incident.
