Torching Bnp Leaders' House In Tala
12 held, case against unnamed 2000
Police last night arrested 12 local leaders and activists of BNP for their alleged involvement in arsons and looting houses of two party men.
The violence took place Friday suspecting involvement of the two BNP leaders in the sensational murder of Dhandia Union Parishad (UP) chairman Maniruzzaman Chanchal, also a BNP activist.
The arrested persons are Lutfor Rahman, Samsuddin Ahmed, Aksed Ali, Abul Hossain Gazi, Ahsan and Khairul Islam of Senergati village; Golam Rasul, Ansar Ali, Sher Ali and Azibar Rahman Kha of Panchpara and Chanchal and Paritosh Rishi of Manikhar village in Tala Upazila.
Sub-inspector Ziaur Rahman of Patkelghata police station in Tala upazila filed a case against 2000 un-named people in the union for torching the houses of two BNP leaders in the early hours of Monday.
Over 3,000 angry people torched houses of Dhandia UP member Abdul Malek Lalu and Ruhul Quddus. The mob also burnt the house of accused Zobeda Khatun to ashes who in her confessional statement before a magistrate on Thursday said they killed chairman Chanchal as per directive of Abdul .Malek member and Ruhul Quddus.
Victim Arifuzzaman Chanchal of Sharsha village in Tala upazila was a member of district BNP convening committee. He was abducted and strangled on Wednesday morning.
Police said due to political rivalry, Abdul Malek Lalu and Ruhul Quddus hired the killers.
BNP sources said Abdul Malek Lalu is the secretary of Dhandia Union BNP and Ruhul Quddus is the president of Dhandia Union Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal.
Almost all male members of left their houses in the union after the arrests.
On contact, Satkhira Police Superintendent Abu Sufiyan confirmed the arrests.
“None will be spared for creating trouble and taking law in their own hands”, he said. Police are trying to nab the absconding killers of Chanchal, he added.
