Zia fertiliser to remain silent for 40 days
Ashuganj Zia fertiliser factory will stop rumbling for 40 days from yesterday for overhauling to avoid frequent production disruption due to old machinery.
The authorities will also go for another overhauling of the factory in 2010 to attain its full production capacity of 1600 tonnes of urea a day.
The 40 days' overhauling will cost Tk 40 crore, according to sources at the factory.
At least 320 foreign engineers and workers from China, some European countries and India along with local engineers started overhauling the factory yesterday.
If no 'major and complex problem' is not found, the overhauling work will be completed by November 19, they said.
When contacted, its mnaging director Md. Osman Gani said production will increase and interruption will be minismised by the current overhauling.
