Allegations of 174 lawyers against Khulna CMM
One hundred and seventy four lawyers of Khulna District Bar Association have brought allegations of corruption against Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Mahabubur Rahman.
A petition signed by the 174 lawyers has been sent to the Chief Justice seeking his intervention in the matter and demanding formation of a judicial committee to probe into the allegations for necessary action.
The lawyers' contains 18 allegations.
They alleged that the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) earned Taka eighty lakh as graft for recruiting 39 officials and employees, violating circular of the ministry concerned.
Most of the recruited officials and employees come from his home district Pabna, they alleged.
Besides, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate misbehaves with lawyers, police, clients and employees during official hours and also in the court, the petitioners alleged, demanding his removal from Khulna Metropolitan Court for the sake of maintaining sanctity of the judiciary.
When contacted yesterday, CMM Md. Mahabubur Rahman denied all the allegations. He also admitted receiving a copy of the petition sent to the Chief Justice.
He said that a group of lawyers took the stand against him without any basis.
“The allegations are absolutely unfounded, false and motivated as I never served their ill purpose”, the CMM said, claiming himself to be “most sincere and honest in his official and judicial works”.
President of Khulna District Bar Association Advocate SR Faruque, when asked, refused to comment on this matter.
