2 get 20 years for trying to sell woman in brothel
A court here yesterday sentenced two persons to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for trying to sell a garment worker in a brothel.
Judge Jesmin Anwar of Woman and Children Repression Prevention Court in Tangail delivered the verdict. The convicts were also fined Tk 15,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more RI.
The convicts are Labu Miah, 25, of Purbo Adalat Para in Tangail town and Shajahan Miah, 23, of Binnafair village in Tangail Sadar upazila. They are now in Tangail jail.
Garment worker Nazma, 22, and her husband Faruque came to the Tangail house of her husband's friend Shajahan on May 14 last. A day later, Shajahan took her to the house of his brother-in-law Labu in absence of her husband.
They (Labu and Shajahan) took Nazama to Kandapara brothel in Tangail town on the same day and tried to sell her to Roksana, a leader of sex workers.
Asked by Roksana, Nazma declined to work as a sex worker.
Roksana detained Labu and Shajahan and informed police, who arrested the two and rescued Nazma.
Nazama filed a case against the two with the police station.
