BNP factions clash in Sirajganj: 20 hurt

At least 20 BNP men including Sirajganj Pourasabha mayor Nur-e- Alam were injured in a clash between supporters of orthodox and reformists at a party meeting held at Bhasani auditorium here Sunday night, party sources said. The clash erupted as Raiganj upazila BNP president Nur Sayeed, also a loyalist of Khaleda Zia criticized the reformists. BNP leaders from Bogra and Pabna districts were present at the meeting chaired by former lawmaker Abdul Mannan Talukder, elected from Sirajganj-3 constituency (Raiganj-Tarash) who is also president of district BNP and a follower of reformists. Instantly, Talukder's followers protested Sayeed's remarks triggering the clash. Attackers broke furniture of the auditorium. During the clash, many party leaders were physically assaulted. Ultimately, the party meeting ended in fiasco. On information, police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and local clinics in the town.
