7 parties give fake addresses in Rajshahi, Barisal

Star National Desk
Field-level investigators of the local election offices have found that seven political parties that applied for registration under the Election Commission mentioned fake addresses as their party offices in Rajshahi and Barisal districts. Four parties intending to get registered with the Election Commission provided false information about their committees and offices in Rajshahi, reports our Rajshahi correspondent. The parties are Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JGP), National People's Party (NPP) and Forward Party (FP). FP 'offices' at Puthia and upazilas and Rajpara thana, as mentioned by the party in the papers submitted to the EC, were found to be non-existent, EC sources said. PDP mentioned its Bagmara upazila office to be at Noor Khan Super Market at Taherpur. But the address was found to be the residence of the party's upazila convenor AKK Khan Ferdous. A signboard of the party was seen hanging there. JGP mentioned its Motihar thana office to be at 46, Moulovi Budhpara in the city, but the given address was found to be the residence of Motihar thana JGP convenor Mehdi Hasan. The district office of JGP was mentioned at store No 14 of District Council Dak Bungalow Market. But the party men could not show any deed to prove the party's possession of the store. NPP claimed its district and city unit offices are housed at 18, Khorbona, Manichattar in the city. But the election officials did not find any such address. When asked, the NPP's district unit President Matiur Rahman told officials that the office was shifted to Laxmipur. NPP's Durgapur 'upazila office' at Pilot School Market and Puthia upazila office at Char Ani Bazar were also found to be non-existent. Our Barisal correspondent adds: Barisal office of the Election Commission (EC) has failed to find offices of at least four parties in this divisional city, said Manirul Islam, deputy election commissioner of Barisal division. The parties are Bangladesh Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party, Forward Party and Samajik Rajnoitik Andolon. A list of 14 political parties seeking registration was sent to Barisal EC office on October 26 and Barisal office of EC started investigation about the information submitted by the parties on October 27, Manirul Islam, deputy election commissioner of Barisal division, said. Investigation about the 14 parties will complete within today (Sunday), he said.
