Khulna acting DIG tells police
Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in Khulna range M Asaduzzaman Mia has directed the law enforcers to intensify the ongoing operation in four districts to mop up extremists ahead of the upcoming two elections.
Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga and Jhenidah districts are branded as most outlaw-infested area in south-western region.
Emphasising holding of elections in a peaceful manner, the IGP asked the law enforcement agencies to intensify their vigil so that outlawed party cadres cannot influence the polls or rig the electioneering.
“We will take stern action against outlaws and criminals involved in vote rigging and also against those who use them to snatch people's right to choice their representatives,” the acting DIG said in an anti-crime meeting at Baliapara village in Sadar upazila in the district yesterday.
Kushtia Superintendent of Police (SP) Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme organised by district police.
Among others, Dr Anwarul Karim, treasurer of Islamic University, Meherpur SP Abdur Razzak, Chuadanga SP Morshed Alam, and Jhenidah SP addressed the meeting.
