Human chain foiled in Manikganj
Cultural activists and general students under the banner of Sculpture Protection Forum yesterday formed a human chain wearing black badges in front of the central library on Rajshahi University (RU) campus protesting demolition of Lalon sculpture near Zia International Airport in Dhaka.
Later, they brought out a protest procession and held a rally in front of the central library demanding immediate re-installation of Baul sculptures at the airport roundabout in Dhaka, reports our correspondent.
Speakers urged the government to ensure a free environment for art and culture in the country.
They demanded immediate announcement of the Zia International Airport Chattar as a 'Lalon Chattar'.
They also demanded trial of war criminals through speedy trial tribunal.
The culture activists will submit a memorandum to the caretaker government chief today (Sunday) demanding re-installation of the Baul's sculptures at its original place.

In Manikganj, police yesterday foiled the human chain programme organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) in Manikganj to protest the demolition of Lalon statue near Zia International Airport in Dhaka on October 15.
JSD Manikganj district unit organised the programme in front of Manikganj Press Club at 11:05am, but police prevented party leaders and activists from going there, JSD leaders said.
