Officials take bribe from teachers, alleges NU VC
National University Vice Chancellor Prof M Mofakkharul Islam yesterday said harassment of teachers by governing body members continued even after political leaders were replaced by government officials.
There are allegations that the teachers have to give bribe to government officials selected as members of the governing body, he said in his speech as the chief guest at a seminar captioned Shikkhar Jonnoi Shikkhangon (Educational Institution is for Education).
Bangladesh College Shikkhok Samity (BCSS) and College Addhayakkha Parishad (CAP) jointly organized he programme at the auditorium of Social Welfare Department office in the city yesterday.
Chiefs of educational institutions have to face harassment when they require signature of government officials, chairman or a member of the governing body, Prof M Mofakkharul said.
The salaries of the teachers, even fourth class employees of the non-government colleges are held up for bad students' results but the government college teachers enjoy full salary and benefits even after being accused of the same, speakers said at the seminar.
They demanded immediate resumption of the monthly pay order (MPO) of the 51 private colleges that faced suspension of the MPO.
Principal Prof Mazharul Hannan, president of the CAP, presented the keynote paper at the seminar presided over by Principal AKM Abdur Rob.
Prof Dr M Murtaza Waliul Kabir, chairman of Barisal Education Board, was special guest.
Among others, Prof Mohsinul Islam Habul, Shamsul Alam, Golam Rasul Sani, Ibrahim Biswas, leaders of the organizations addressed the program participated by more than two hundred teachers.
