3 RU cultural activists file GD
Three cultural activists at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday filed three general dairies (GD) with Motiher Police Station on receipt of death threats from the cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on Friday.
They are Udichi Shilpigoshti general secretary Abu Sayem, also president of RU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU), Dhumketu Natya Sangsad convener Rafi Ahmed and Udichi activist Hosne Ara Farzana who was also allegedly assaulted by Shibir cadres.
They also submitted separate memorandums to acting vice chancellor (VC) Prof Keramat containing their five points of demands. The demands included immediate arrest and cancellation of studentship of Shibir cadres, immediate ban on religion-based politics and ensuring security of life of cultural activists on the campus.
The cultural activists threatened a tougher agitation if the university authorities fail to take action against the Shibir cadres immediately.
When contacted, the acting VC said, 'We shall take action after an investigation'.
Meanwhile, a large contingent of police has been deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident.
Earlier, Shibir cadres gave death threats to the cultural activists after staging a drama titled, 'Mandar' by Dhumketu Natya Sangsad on the campus on November 3.
