Prayer For Huji Men's Remand
Kibria murder hearing now on Dec 9
A Sylhet court yesterday deferred the date for next hearing on the investigation officer's prayer for remanding five Huji men including its chief Mufti Abdul Hannan in the case for killing SAMS Kibria and four others.
Judge-Shamim Mohammad Afzal of Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal fixed December 9 for next hearing.
“I prayed for their remand for quizzing the Huji men as suspects in the sensational case. After quizzing them, I will be able to file the supplementary charge sheet in four to six weeks time,” the IO, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ASP Md Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Star yesterday.
The trial procedure remained suspended for nine months due to the absence of the tribunal judge.
Meanwhile, the High Court order staying the trial of the two cases, one under Explosives Act and the other for killing, had been vacated weeks ago.
Trial in the killing case will resume now as the High Court stay order had been vacated, Special Public Prosecutor of Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, Fokhruddin Ahmed said yesterday.
The then investigation officer of the case, senior ASP of CID Munshi Atiqur Rahman informed the tribunal about additional investigation in writing on March 7 this year. As he went on retirement in July, ASP Rafiqul Islam took over the charge of investigation.
Former finance minister SAMS Kibria and four others were killed in a grenade attack at a public meeting at Baidderbazar of Habiganj Sadar upazila on January 27 in 2005.
