Former BNP MP Habib says cases against him false
Satkhira district BNP convenor and former lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib who got High Court bail recently in all cases in his first public appearance here said he is innocent and implicated in false cases.
Habib, accused in at least five cases including one for murder of Tala upazila BNP president ABM Altaf Hossain, went into hiding to avoid arrest soon after promulgation of emergency.
He came to Satkhira after 22 months and addressed a street corner meeting on t Tala kitchen market premises yesterday.
Habib said he was victimised by vested quarters who implicated him in the cases to tarnish his image.
The vested groups tried to oust him from politics, he claimed.
Chaired by Tala upazila BNP convenor Miajan Moral, the meeting was addressed by, among others, district BNP leaders Samsuzzoha Bablu, Hosne Ara Ahmed, Emamul Islam Sharif and Mahabbat Ali.
Habib was elected from Satkhira-1 (Tala-Kalaroa) constituency as a four-party alliance candidate in 2001.
