BNP leader Shish Mohammad gets 3 years in ACC case
Rajshahi Divisional Special Tribunal yesterday awarded local BNP leader Shish Muhammad, also close aide to convicted former BNP minister Aminul Haque, three years of rigorous imprisonment in absentia for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
M Sajedul Karim, judge of the court, fined Shish Tk 25,000 and to suffer six months more in jail if he fails to pay the fine, said Public Prosecutor Shahidul Haque.
Abdul Karim, deputy director of Rajshahi ACC, who lodged the case on April 24, said Shish committed crime by not complying with a government order to submit statement of wealth and liabilities between February 7 and 17 this year.
The charge was pressed against Shish on July 1.
Shish Muhammad went into hiding after declaration of emergency in January last year. Convicted in the same case for abetting militants of Jama'atul Mujahideen, Bangladesh in 2004, Shish Muhammad and Aminul Haque was earlier jailed for 31 years.
Sources said Shish is now hiding abroad.
