58 Hajj pilgrims constrained as agency 'breaches' contract
Hajj pilgrimage of 58 people of Sidr-hit Sharonkhola upazila of Bagerhat district and flood affected Satkhira district has become quite uncertain although they have made all necessary payments for that purpose.
In press statement sent to different local dailies, the pilgrims said as per contact with a travel agency named 'Dhali' they made necessary payments after fulfilling all terms and conditions with the travel agency authorities in Khulna City.
The travel agency demanded more money saying that it was needed for different reasons including rise in house rent in Makka, they said.
“This demand was made at a time when we completed all necessary formalities including medical check-up,” said Noorjahan Begum of Sharankhola upazila and Abul Bashar of Tootpara under Khulna Sadar.
They alleged that authorities of the travel agency had seized their passports.
They have sought intervention of the concerned ministry to arrange their pilgrimage and take stern action against the travel agency for cheating them on the eve of Hajj.
When asked, Chairman of the travel agency Mujahidul Islam Selim said house rent in Makka has doubled compared to last year and so, pilgrims have to pay additional money for that purpose before going for pilgrimage.
Authorities of other travel agencies in Khulna City, however, said they had not demanded any extra money from any pilgrims due to rise in house rent in Makka.
