Champion in adulteration!
The businessman of Bangladesh are said to be the champion in food adulteration. Most of the businessmen of our country are unscrupulous. They have no conscience and morality. The main objective of the business is maximization of profit. In order to achieve their prime objective they often choose the shortest path, which is unethical as well as illegal. An unscrupulous businessperson can make money by killing innocent people. Business ethics may be found in the book but in reality we are far away from this practice. According to the Weinrich H & Koontz H “Business ethics is concerned with truth and justice and has a variety of aspects such as the expectations of society, fair competition, advertising, public relations, social responsibilities, consumer autonomy, and corporate behaviour in the home country as well as abroad.” But what we find in reality is odious business practices. No one is concerned about consumer's health or welfare. One can easily find the redundancy of proof about my statement if we look around the following matters.
The melamine scandal is one of the major issues throughout the world. The dairy farmers have mixed melamine, a toxic industrial chemical, to make their products falsely rich with protein. Melamine is a harmful element for the human body and may damage kidney, liver, etc. I don't know how many children have died in Bangladesh by having melamine contaminated milk. Even adults are affected by the melamine contaminated foods. Appropriate survey is needed about this major issue. But we should not overlook other issues like formalin in fish, carbide in fruits, mixing of brick powder with turmeric, pepper powder and sand with salt.
The government regulatory bodies and the law enforcing agencies should enforce the law in a consistent manner. Consumerism can play a vital role. Consumerism includes the activities of the individuals, groups, and organisations aimed at protecting consumer rights.
I would like to call upon government to take fair and square steps to eradicate adulteration form our country.
