Election 2008Nilphamari-1

Tuhin's absence brightens Jamaat chance

Our Correspondent, Nilphamari

Jamaat-e-Islami is out to win the Nilphamari-1 (Domar-Dimla upazila) seat in absence of Shahrin Islam Tuhin, nephew of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is now hiding after being convicted by court for over 20 years'. As a convict, Tuhin will not be able to contest the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections. But BNP finds no other suitable candidate as his substitute. Exploiting the situation, Jamaat is out to grab the seat in the pretext that Awami League (AL) might be the beneficiary in absence of Tuhin. The probable Jamaat candidate here is Dimla upazila Jamaat Ameer Moulana Ishaque, party sources said.
