Rawshan to fight AL's Rabbi in Gaibandha-5
No consensus also in Gaibandha-4

Awami League (AL) and Jatiya Party (JP) leaders are contesting in Gaibandha-4 and Gaibandha-5 as the grand alliance failed to field consensus candidates in the two constituencies. Rival candidates of grand alliance have already withdrawn their nomination papers in three other constituencies. There are five constituencies in Gaibandha. Monower Hossain Chowdhury of AL and Ali Mahbub Talukder of JP are in polls race in Gaibandha-4 while JP Presidium member Rawshan Ershad will fight Fazle Rabbi Mia of AL in Gaibandha-5 with their respective party symbols. Gaibandha returning officer yesterday (Friday) allotted them polls symbols 'boat' and 'plough'. Rawshan Ershad won Gaibandha-5 in 2001 by defeating advocate Fazle Rabbi of AL. She got 93,432 votes. This constituency is considered as a stronghold of JP. Prior to 2001 election, Rabbi won the seat four terms as a JP candidate. Rabbi joined AL and lost the seat in 2001. In Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj), AL has fielded former chief engineer of LGED Monower Hossain Chowdhury and JP has nominated industrialist Ali Mahbub Talukder. Both are new face. This JS seat belonged to JP till 1996. Abdul Mottaleb Akanda of BNP won the seat in 2001 election by defeating Tozammel Hossain Prodhan of AL.
