AL hopes to bag 3 out of 5 seats in Gaibandha
Awami League (AL) this time is hopeful about capturing three seats out of five in Gaibandha district in the upcoming general election.
AL high-ups have fielded three candidates including two new faces in Gaibandha-2, Gaibandha-4 and Gaibandha-5.
There is a bright prospect for former state minister Advocate Fazley Rabbi, who is contesting from Gaibandha-5 against JP presidium member Begum Rowshan Ershad.
This time the voters including party men are thinking to vote for local candidate who will be available for all the time, and as such Advocate Rabbi is in a better position, said a group of labourers at Bharatkhali.
Rowshan won the seat defeating Advocate Rabbi in 2001 general election as it had been the vote bank of JP since 1996.
Advocate Rabbi won the seat for three terms as JP nominee and joined AL prior to 2001 election.
AL has fielded two new faces Mahbub Ara Gini, a central leader, in Gaibandha-2, and Monower Hossain Chowdhury in Gaibandha-4.
Both the candidates have started campaigning in their respective constituencies.
As Gini, a close relative of AL chief Sheikh Hasina, is contesting as the nominee of grand alliance, JP stalwart Abdur Rashid Sarker is no more in the election race and it will be a plus point for her.
“We are hopeful about the wining of Gini as party men and local people have committed to work together for AL candidate, said Abu Bakker Siddique, secretary of Gaibandha district AL.
Another new face Monower, former chief engineer of LGED, is contesting under AL banner.
While visiting the areas many people told this correspondent that not only AL party men but also voters of all classes will support Monower as he did many things for the people of Gobindaganj during the tenure of his service.
