AL eyes big win for AK Khandaker
Awami League eyes a big win in Pabna-2 (Sujanagar-Bera) constituency in the upcoming parliamentary election as the party nominee Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandaker, the deputy chief of Mukti Bahini during the Liberation War, is getting heartily welcome from locals.
“A number of Awami League leaders, workers and people of minority community in Sujanagar upazila were tortured during the four-party alliance government as the former MP patronised the criminals. The people want safety and they are united for AK Khandaker,” Md Abdul Wahab, secretary of Sujanagar upazila unit AL told this correspondent yesterday over phone.
“AK Khandaker is receiving hearty reception during his visits at different places in the constituency. We expect a big win for him,” said Md Abul Kasem, president of Sujanagar upazila unit AL.
When contacted over phone on Friday, AK Khandaker said, “I will take steps for development of my constituency. I will raise the demand for war criminals' trial in parliament if I am elected.”
“Troublemakers have appeared who are destroying election posters at several areas. We have complained to the authorities about the matter,” he said.
“Hidden criminals or outlaws may also become active ahead of elections. I will face all the obstacles with the help of law,” he said.
Immediate past lawmaker Salim Reza Habib is contesting as BNP candidate from the constituency.
Earlier he was acquitted from charges in a corruption case as the Anti-Corruption Commission gave final report.
