'Clean' candidates of AL and Bikalpa Dhara face 'strong' BNP rivals

Despite having the image of 'clean' candidates, Awami League's advocate Lutful Hai Satchu in Brahmanbaria 3 and Bikalpa Dhara's advocate Sabera Begum in Brahmanbaria5 may face a tough contest with 'strong' BNP rivals in the upcoming parliamentary election. The AL candidate has alleged that the BNP candidate and his workers are attracting voters violating the electoral code of conduct. Brahmanbaria3 comprise 15 unions and one pourasabha of Bramanabria sadar upazila) while Brahmanbaria-5 comprise 18 unions of Nabinagar upazila. Lutful Hai Satchu, president of district Ala and a former lawmaker, did not face any case and has no loan liability, according to his affidavit. On the other hand, his rival former lawmaker advocate Haroon Al Rashid faced a case under Act 147/ 447/ 448/ 380/ 379/ 427 filed with the Fist Class Magistrate court in Brahmanbaria in 2006, which is yet to be dismissed. He has a house building loan of Taka 2,78,284.00. He is also a former chief wheep, state minister, chairman of financial advisory committee of parliament and president of Bangladesh Red Crescent society. Haroon Al Rashid is trying to win the seat again. Some of his moneyed man supporters are allegedly violating the electoral code to woo the voters, his rivals claimed. They made the allegation at a recent press conference and filed a complaint to the returning officer in this regard. In Brahmanbaria5, new face Bikalpa Dhara central leader and Supreme Court advocate Sabera Begum is also known as a 'clean' candidate among the people in Nabinagar upazila. According to her affidavit, she has not faced any case till now. She has a house building loan of Tk 9,58,418. She is fighting BNP's Kazi Md. Anwar Hossain who won the seat four times. Anwar Hossain passed HSC and faces a case filed with Motijheel police station in Dhaka.
