Lalmonirhat UNO withdrawn for 'partisan' role

Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) KM Ali Newaz has been withdrawn for his partisan role in favour of the four-party alliance candidate in Lalmonirhat-3 constituency. The UNO was stand released to the Ministry of Establishment yesterday, returning officer of Lalmonirhat, Alauddin Faqir told this correspondent. KM Ali Newaz took initiative to print ballot paper and worked in favour of former deputy minister Asadul Habib Dulu, BNP nominee for Lalmonirhat-3, Jatiya Party presidium member former lawmaker Golam Mohammad Quader, also the grand alliance candidate in the seat, said in a written complaint. Quader also alleged that the UNO, also assistant returning officer of Lalmonirhat-3, was present at the controversial meeting on November 29 night in 2006 at an Uttara house in Dhaka where a number of pro-BNP government officials were present.
