'Try war criminals, attacks on freedom fighters'

Amra Muktijoddhar Santan, a platform of sons and daughters of freedom fighters in Rajshahi, yesterday formed a human chain and held a rally at Shaheb Bazar zero point in the city demanding trial of war criminals. They also demanded trial and punishment of people who tortured and attacked freedom fighters and their families during BNP-Jamaat government. The demonstrators carried various banners and placards with slogans for punishment of war criminals. After the human chain, a short briefing was held where speakers said the whole nation wants trial of the war criminals. If the new government fails in its commitment to try raw criminals, its pledge to hold high the spirit of the Liberation War will be flouted, they said. They also congratulated voters for rejecting war criminals and corrupt politicians through ballot in the ninth parliamentary election. People have given verdict in the right way, and now it is up to the government to act on it, speakers at the rally said. Convener of Rajshahi unit of Amra Muktijoddhar Santan Nasimul Haque Babu, its member secretary AKM Ahsanul Kabir and other leaders addressed the meeting.
