RU VC holds 'close-door' meeting with Shibir leaders

Acting vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Dr Mamnunul Keramat held a close door meeting with Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders at his office yesterday. Earlier on the day, around 100 Shibir leaders led by its president and secretary met the acting VC at his office. They later said they submitted a memorandum to the VC demanding punishment of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) activists who damaged their banners, posters and billboards at different boys' dormitories. Some photo journalists entered the VC's office to snap handover of the memorandum, but the VC did not allow them to do so, No other official were allowed to enter the VC's office during the meeting, campus sources said. Before the meeting, Shibir activists, allegedly joined by outsiders, staged a showdown on the campus. When contacted over telephone, RU acting VC Prof Mamnunul Keramat said they (Shibir) discussed their problems and placed some demands.
