Rangpur-3 by-election
JP demands party ticket for Abed Ali
Jatiya Party leaders yesterday demanded nomination for district organising secretary of the party Abed Ali in the upcoming by-lection in Rangpur-3 constituency.
Ershad won from Rangpur-3, Kurigram-2 and Dhaka-17 constituencies in the December 29 parliamentary election. He vacated Rangpur-3 and Kurigram-2.
At a press conference held in the town, the JP leaders urged chief HM Ershad to nominate Abed Ali, claiming that he enjoys support of majority party men in the area.
Rangpur Sadar upazila secretary Ataur Rahman told the press conference that majority of grassroots leaders of the party have given their consent in favour of Abed Ali as he is honest and fit for this.
He requested the party chief and high-ups to honour the sentiment of grassroots party leaders and activists in Rangpur-3 constituency.
Abed Ali, who was also present at the press conference, said, "I struggled for 17 years to hold high the party flag in the district despite all odds. The part chief should realise the sentiment of grassroots party men”.
Earlier, a number of party leaders met Ershad in Dhaka on January-3 and gave him a resolution of the local party unit demanding party ticket for Abed Ali.
