A ' new democracy'

The parliamentary elections were held after a very unpredictable period in the political arena of our country. It is worth mentioning that we have ugly political parties who when in power have absolute disregard for the rights of the people. It is here that we have political parties with very little competency for what they are bestowed with every 5 years running the country. Now, I believe the people have had bitter experiences during the tenure of every government. Frankly speaking, so far we have had no realistic vision from anyone. It is all big talk and no action. Basically, every party has been following their whims and desires to varying degrees, whenever possible. But here we are at the brink of what many might like to call a 'new era'. We witnessed the most peaceful and fair elections ever held in the history of our country. We thank the interim government for making this possible. We congratulate the grand alliance on their landslide victory. And at the same time we hope the opposition parties will show some dignity in accepting their defeat and do some soul searching to regain the people's confidence. However, this overwhelming faith of the people is not to be taken for granted. This was probably an election where people opted to choose between the bad and the worse and the better prevailed. This government has high expectations riding on them in terms of realising past mistakes and bringing radical changes to their policies. They must start dealing with corruption, violence, eroding educational system etc. We shall not accept anything less.
